Virtually in Durban

The UN climate negotiations in South Africa have been underway for four days now. There are reports that the EU is taking a hardline stance to the consternation of developing countries, while US President Obama has come under pressure at home for US negotiators to take a more flexible stance. BBC correspondent Richard Black, meanwhile, has compared negotiators to stags fighting.

For those who can’t be there and who’d like to follow the tussles minute by minute, there’s a whole raft of possibilities for logging in remotely.

The UN website has a page dedicated to virtual participation, with links to the negotiation’s YouTube channel, for press briefing highlights and video messages, Facebook page, which is liked by nearly 10,000 people and where today’s quiz question is ‘who was the first COP president?’, Twitter feeds, and more. There’s even a “UN climate negotiatior” iphone app. And the really committed can watch live and on-demand webcasts of press briefings.
