Changing winds cause ocean deadzones
Changes in the southward winds off the coast of Northern California and Oregon over the last couple of years have caused major problems for marine ecosystems. In the spring of 2005 the winds arrived around two months late whereas in 2006 they were double their normal strength. Both phenomena caused organism deaths and were unprecedented in around 50 years of records for the region.
