Ocean heating rises in Arctic
Over the past 27 years, the amount of solar energy entering the upper-ocean in the Arctic has increased in 89% of areas studied by a team from the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center, Polar Science Center, University of Alaska Fairbanks and California Institute of Technology. The rise is attributed to a decrease in the extent of Arctic sea ice cover, which has lowered surface albedo.
