Mitigating Arctic warming
The Arctic has experienced temperature increases almost twice as fast as the global average warming rate over the last 100 years. Rising temperatures in the spring have a particular impact as they can cause earlier melting of snow and ice, which decreases the reflectivity (or albedo) of the Earth’s surface, boosting the amount of solar radiation absorbed and causing further warming in a positive feedback loop.
