Negative headlines are counterproductive
Headlines that compare one nation’s environmental performance negatively to another’s may actually cause people to be less "green" instead of spurring them on to better behaviour. That’s according to a team from the UK and the Netherlands who found that people were more likely to perceive themselves as environment-friendly if they’d compared themselves earlier to a group with lower environmental standards.
