X-ray kit reveals poor coral health
Warming waters in the Red Sea have caused growth of the reef-building coral Diploastrea heliopora to slow by almost one third since 1998. Although samples of the coral appeared healthy, three-dimensional X-ray computed tomography (CT) scans conducted by researchers from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, US, revealed a worrying trend in skeletal development.
