Greenhouse gases in the Earth system: Setting the agenda to 2030

On 22-23 February 2010 in London, United Kingdom, as part of the celebrations of the Royal Society of London's 350th anniversary, we will hold a Discussion Meeting on:

Greenhouse gases in the Earth system:
Setting the agenda to 2030.

Organised by Euan Nisbet, Peter Liss FRS, Andrew Manning and Ralph Keeling

This two-day meeting includes invited talks from leading scientists world-wide, as well as contributions from policy-makers. 2010 marks the fiftieth anniversary of Charles David Keeling's first publication of atmospheric CO2 measurements.

The meeting will discuss the scientific issues relevant to greenhouse gas measurement and modelling, both in the atmosphere, land and ocean, on regional and global scales, and will consider the developing national and global responses to the greenhouse challenge. New scientific advances promise regional audits of emissions, assessment of uptakes, and better understanding of controlling and feedback processes.

Speakers include leaders in both measurement and modelling, from North America, continental Europe, the Pacific, and the UK. There will be generous periods for discussion. Audience input is an important part of the meeting, and all attendees are actively encouraged to participate in the discussion to shape the agenda for the next 20 years.

There will also be a small number of posters and opportunity to discuss them.

Proceedings from the meeting will be published as a special issue of the world's oldest scientific journal, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London.
