Workshop Invitation
Forest Ecology

June, 10th - 11th 2010
"The Role of Insects in Forest Ecosystem Functioning under Changing Environmental Conditions"

The professed objective to manage forest ecosystems in a sustainable and sound manner receives increased attention in the light of effects caused by changing climatic conditions. Important prerequisite and requirements in this context focus on a detailed understanding of processes and interactions in forest ecosystems. However, to this date very little seems to be known about the truly complex response of insect populations in forests on climatic changes and rigorous weather events. After all the question remains on how those responses in our forests can be extrapolated and transformed into future scenarios, and what natural processes are involved to foster the stability and resilience of forest habitats.

The workshop will be organized in Eberswalde, Germany,

10-11th June 2010

Topical sessions:

  1. Forest Insect Interactions and Functions (biodiversity, habitat quality, methods)
  2. Global Warming and Forest Insect Dynamics
  3. Adapted Silvicultural Management – Insect Conservation, Pest Risk Management

The Forestry Competence Center Research Institute (LFE) of the state of Brandenburg, Eberswalde, in cooperation with The International Expert Group on Forest Disturbances "Fordis", as well as the "IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science" (Electronic Journals) is pleased to invite all interested colleagues and students to attend the workshop.

Workshop Venue: Main lecture hall at the forest campus (Waldcampus) of the University of Applied Sciences, Alfred Möller Str. 1, 16225 Eberswalde.

There is the opportunity for a come together at 10th June. Social event on request at the "Wald Solar Heim".

Submittals: Welcome are oral presentations and posters. Abstracts (max. 2500 characters) and posters provide a unique opportunity to focus on all aspects of population dynamics, community ecology, forest ecology, biological control, and integrated management of forest insects. You are invited to submit abstracts and posters to tim.ziesche@lfee.brandenburg.de or areinha@gwdg.de by 30 January 2010.

Presentations: Each paper/presentation is allocated 20 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes free for discussion.
