13 - 16 September 2010, Sopot, Poland.
"Modelling Atmospheric Circulations with Sound-proof Equations"
Second announcement
The 2nd International EULAG Workshop, combined with the primary theme on "Modeling Atmospheric Circulations with Sound-proof Equations", will take place in Poland in the historic town of Sopot. The primary topic of the workshop will focus on the review of the current status of inelastic models and their applications. On this topic, we invite contributions from the larger geophysical, computational fluid dynamics community on all aspects of inelastic atmospheric and oceanographic modeling. The secondary theme looks at the latest new developments and applications relevant to EULAG. We invite presentations showing diverse research applications of EULAG, with the aim of exchanging experiences and promoting collaborations between EULAG users. The meeting will also feature a session discussing the updated master code and prospective standards for EULAG, and tutorials concerning the basic and new features of the model code. The editors of Acta Geophysica, an SCI-source Springer's journal on geophysical problems, plan a special issue devoted exclusively to the workshop.
Call for abstracts:
One page abstracts on topics related to either EULAG or the general topic of "Modeling Atmospheric Circulations with Sound-proof Equations" are invited.
Please submit abstracts by e-mail to (michal.ziemianski@imgw.pl).
The deadline for abstract submission is Friday, 19th of March 2010.
Notifications of acceptance will be e-mailed by the 26th of March 2010.
There are no registration fees.
Location
Sopot is located on the outskirts of the Hanseatic city of Gdansk. Sopot is a sea resort on the Baltic sea, surrounded by forest, full of historical architecture and proud of the longest wooden pier in Europe (http://www.sopot.net/english.htm, http://www.gdansk-life.com/poland/sopot, www.sopot.pl). We will be meeting in the modern lecture hall of the Institute of Oceanology of Polish Academy of Sciences (address: Sopot, Powstancow Warszawy 55, www.iopan.gda.pl), located just meters from the sandy beach.
Transport information
Fly to Gdansk "Lech Walesa" international airport (GDN, www.airport.gdansk.pl), then you may take a taxi directly to Sopot (City Plus Neptun Taxi has a good reputation, approximate cost is 90,- zloty on Sundays, 4 zloty is approximately 1 euro). Alternatively, there is a public bus (number 110) to the Gdansk-Wrzeszcz train station (Wrzeszcz PKP), from which you need to take the urban train (SKM) to Sopot railway station. It takes 26 minutes to get by bus from the airport to Wrzeszcz PKP, the final bus stop. Buses ride on Sundays about every 40 minutes (the time table: www.ztm.gda.pl/rozklady/rozklad-110_20091212-1-2.html, Sunday is 'niedziela' in Polish, and working day is 'dzien powszedni'). At Wrzeszcz PKP you need to take the SKM train in the direction to Gdynia and get off at Sopot Glowny (Sopot main station) which takes about 14 minutes, the trains ride on Sundays every 15 minutes (the time table for September is not available on the internet yet, we will provide this information later). From the station you can either walk or take a taxi. The price of a bus and train ticket is around 3 zloty. There is also a bus (number 210) from the airport to the Gdansk main railway station, from which you can take the SKM train to Sopot, but the journey will take about 30 minutes longer. Alternatively, you may fly to Warsaw and take a train from Warsaw main station (Warszawa Centralna) directly to Sopot Glowny.
