Nominations are now open Australia-wide for the annual national United Nations Association of Australia World Environment Day Awards 2010. The Awards recognise businesses, local governments, individuals, community organisations, schools and the media whose work serves to protect, manage or restore the environment.

In support of the International Year of Biodiversity and the 2010 United Nations World Environment Day theme 'Many Species, One Planet, One Future' this year the Department of Sustainability and Environment Biodiversity Award for excellence in the development and management of Australia's biodiversity was introduced.

Award categories include:

  • WSP Lincolne Scott Sustainability Leadership Award
  • Szencorp Green Building Award
  • Virgin Blue Business Awards
  • Department of Sustainability and Environment Biodiversity Award
  • Meeting the Greenhouse Challenge Award
  • Excellence in Marine and Coastal Management Award
  • Excellence in Sustainable Water Management Award
  • Education/Schools Award
  • Community Award
  • Individual Award for Outstanding Service to the Environment
  • Local Government Awards
  • Media Award for Environmental Reporting
